Eric Clurfain

Regional President, Latin America

Eric Clurfain was appointed regional president of MetLife Latin America on January 1, 2021, and oversees MetLife's businesses in six countries across the region, including Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico and Uruguay. MetLife is the leading life insurance company in the region by gross written premiums and includes the third and fourth largest markets for MetLife globally, with close to 8,000 employees and a diverse mix of products and distribution channels.

Clurfain joined MetLife as CEO of Turkey in 2010 through the company’s acquisition of Alico. In this role, he reshaped MetLife Turkey’s strategic direction to achieve market leadership.

He became head of Central and Eastern Europe in 2012 and was appointed head of EMEA in 2018, responsible for overseeing MetLife’s operations in more than 25 countries across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

From February 1, 2019, until his appointment as president of the company’s Latin America region, Clurfain was CEO of MetLife Japan, the largest retail market and second-largest market for MetLife globally.

Clurfain has over two decades of insurance experience. Prior to MetLife, he held several positions in New York and South America, including as deputy head of bancassurance for AIG worldwide, with management oversight and strategy responsibilities across 60 countries. He was also CEO of global solutions for United Healthcare in New York. In addition, Clurfain held local and regional management positions with AIG in Argentina and Mexico.

Clurfain holds an MBA from Southern Methodist University in Dallas.
